Becoming a parent can be one of the most wonderful experiences in one’s life however it is typically not without some stress and struggle. As a perinatal mental health specialist, I make it my mission to support parents in navigating the ups and downs of parenthood. Sadly, in our society, there is a great deal of silence and shame surrounding the need for support when we have children as many myths exist: “You wanted children, this is what its like!”, “You just need to toughen up, it only gets harder.”, and “Well if you weren’t ready, maybe you shouldn’t have had kids. ”These myths and outside opinions/judgements can make us question our own ability to succeed- that’s where I come in!! I am here to guide you through issues that becoming a parent can bring to the surface: postpartum depression and/or anxiety, feelings of inadequacy, lack of attachment or feeling connected to your infant, to name a few. You do not have to go through this alone; we will work at your pace to move you forward, allowing you to enjoy your new (or renewed) role as a parent.
